2 arrested in relation to Collingwood, Ont., Christmas thefts from vehicles
Provincial police have arrested two men accused of committing 19 robberies in the city of Collingwood.
Investigators say the two men stole items including gift cards, cash, bank cards and tools from unlocked cars in the area between Dec. 24 and 26.
The men are also charged with stealing a vehicle and using stolen cards to pay for gas.
Police say they were able to identify and arrest the men with the help of the public. One of the suspects allegedly fled on foot and attacked an officer during the arrest, but the officer was not injured. The second suspect was taken into custody without incident.
In total, the two men face 37 charges including robbery, using a stolen credit card, assaulting a police officer and fleeing from police.
The suspects have been identified as Richard Scelstein, 33, of Orillia, and William Cook, 30, of Collingwood.
