Snow warning for Toronto; don't forget winter tires
Toronto residents should brace themselves for the first serious snowfall of the fall. According to a new warning from Meteorological Canada, between 2 and 10 centimetres of snow will fall in various parts of the city on Sunday, which could cause slippery roads and delays. Experts are advising drivers to install their winter tires as soon as possible.
However, the exact path of the weather system is still unknown, and the amount of precipitation may be less or more than predicted. Meteorologists say that much of the snow will be loose and watery due to the relative warmth of the ground.
The warning comes just a day after the city of Toronto announced its winter plan for the homeless. The plan, which runs from November 15 to mid-April, will add about 1,275 new spaces to the shelter system, including beds in warming centres and temporary shelters. Officials have also announced that some shelters will reopen early due to the early onset of cold weather. Currently, about 9,000 people are staying in the city's shelters each night.
