Musk says ‘America Party’ is formed in U.S.

“Today, the American Party was formed,” Musk announced on Saturday, a day after asking his followers on social media platform X whether a new political party should be launched in the United States.

“By a 2-to-1 margin, you asked for a new political party, and now you get it! When it comes to bankrupting the country with waste and corruption, we live in a one-party system, not a democracy. Today, the American Party was formed to give you back your freedom,” Musk wrote in a post, according to Reuters.

The announcement came after US President Donald Trump signed a tax cut and spending increase bill on Friday — something Musk had strongly opposed.

Musk, who recently spent hundreds of millions of dollars on Trump's campaign and headed the Trump administration's Department of Government Optimization — an agency aimed at cutting government spending — has clashed with Trump in recent months over the bill.

Trump threatened this weekend to cut billions of dollars in federal subsidies that Musk-owned companies receive.

Musk had previously promised to launch a new political party if the bill passed and spend money to oust lawmakers who supported the plan.

Republicans worry that Musk's occasional clashes with Trump could jeopardize their chances of retaining a majority in Congress in the 2026 midterm elections.
