Missing hiker found dead: Gillam RCMP
At approximately 10:20 a.m. Sunday morning, RCMP officers from Gillam and Parks Canada were conducting a ground search along with local searchers from Fort Severn.
On the west side of the Hays River, a helicopter pilot reported that he may have found the body of a hiker a short distance from where his jacket was found last Friday.
Ground searchers and officers responded to the scene and confirmed the body was that of the 29-year-old Norwegian hiker who had been missing since August 15 and had failed to make it to York Factory in Manitoba as scheduled.
The body was initially flown by helicopter to Gillam and then flown to Winnipeg for an autopsy scheduled for Monday morning.
