A man suspected in the first-degree murder of a Toronto-area woman has fled Canada, police say. York Region Police say border officials have confirmed that Zhixiong Marko Hu, 47, of Markham, has traveled to Hong Kong.
Yuk-Ying Anita Mui, a 56-year-old woman from Markham, Ontario, was reported missing by her family on August 9 and her charred remains were later found in Parry Sound, Ontario.
Police say they believe Mui disappeared from an address in Stouffville, Ontario, where he was working on a real estate deal, and was targeted.
York Regional Police said Hu faces a charge of first-degree murder and a Canada-wide warrant has been issued for his arrest.
Police say investigators now plan to apply to Interpol for a Red Notice, a request to law enforcement worldwide to locate and temporarily arrest a suspect.
