Firefighters save WW II plane crash site from West Dalhousie wildfire
The memorial, located in the woods of West Dalhousie, was saved from a major fire thanks to the efforts of firefighters who saved the life of two young British pilots who died in a training flight in a Mosquito aircraft near Bridgetown in 1944.
Natural Resources firefighter Corey Eisenhower removed the memorial cross from the crash site for safekeeping. The metal remains of the plane are still scattered in an area known as the “plane crash trail.”
“This is not just a piece of wreckage in the woods; it is a reminder of the human cost of war, even in the most remote areas of the battlefield,” says Glenn Goodett of the War Heritage Society.
