Ontario's Inspector General releases annual report focusing on health care
Ontario’s Inspector General, Shelley Spence, is set to release her annual report today, focusing largely on health care.
Spence’s office is releasing five audit reports, along with annual reviews of government advertising and the government’s responsibilities under the Environmental Rights Act.
Three of the audits are health-related, including a review of access to primary care as the government strives to connect all Ontarians to primary care by 2029.
The inspector general will also release reports on the oversight of medical education in family medicine and the oversight of physician billing; the latter will include a review of the Ministry of Health’s systems to identify inappropriate spending.
In another health-related audit, the report will examine the province’s management of personal protective equipment stockpiles.
The inspector general’s report will also include a look at the Resource Efficiency and Recycling Organization; A regulatory body responsible for manufacturers of batteries, tires and recyclable materials (the “blue box” system).
This report was first published by the Canadian Press on December 2, 2025.
